A Message From Pastor Brad
Greetings in the great Name of Jesus. Here are a few
things for you to know about us and to keep in mind
as you are seeking a “church home.”
Cornerstone is a small, country church that was
formed in October of 1991. We love to study God’s
word together and truly do want to learn how to live
in obedience to God in the strength He supplies.
We seek to have in our lives what could be called
“three reaches”:
•
Upreach toward God in worship and devotion
•
Inreach toward one another in fellowship and
mutual ministry
•
Outreach toward the world in witness and deeds
of love
Our congregation seeks to be all about Jesus in
everything we do. We do not focus on some special
way of conducting church or some special program. It
is not about our method or manner. It is not about
one special teacher. It is all about Jesus, because we
love and trust in Him, and we want to spread the
message about Him and His salvation.
We would like you to come to our church because you
love Jesus (or want to come to love Jesus) and because
you see Cornerstone as a place where that is
happening.
If you do not currently have a “church home,” we
would be delighted to have you join us long-term. In
looking for a church to call home, we believe you
should not be asking the “What can this church be, do,
or offer for me?” kinds of questions, but instead, “How
can I serve Christ and His people here?” and “How will
my gifts be used to further the cause of Christ here?”
We want you to know this about us: We do not seek
to be a church for all people. Instead, we want very
much to be a congregation whose heartbeat is to get
to know our glorious God more and more deeply. We
want to delight in Him more fully, live in His ways
more completely, and spread the message more
widely that this glorious God can be known personally
through His son, Jesus Christ, by the enlivening power
of His Holy Spirit. To this, we press on. To this, we
invite you to press on together with us. May God be
exalted in our pursuit of Him!
In Him,
Pastor Brad
Questions You May Have For Us And
Our Answers
Who Are You?
We are a non-denominational church. That means
that we currently do not have any affiliation with a
larger denominational organization. That does not
mean we are anti-denominational; that is we are not
against denominations and denominational
affiliations.
That being said, we are Protestant and could be called
Conservative Evangelical. We are very similar in many
ways to many Baptist or Evangelical Free kinds of
churches.
Our worship attempts to be God-focused and
reverent, making use of a variety of both old and new
hymns, songs, and other expressions of worship.
What Do You Believe?
Generally we hold to most, if not all, of the basic
historical doctrines of the Protestant Christian Church.
We do have a complete “Statement of Faith” as part of
our church’s constitution. We would be happy to
make that available upon request.
What Gets Emphasized?
The Bible
We have a very high view of the Bible. We believe that
The Bible is completely true and authoritative, and
everything God intended to communicate is complete
and without error. (The versions or translations of the
Bible used mostly are the New American Standard
and The English Standard versions, though people do
use other versions and translations.)
We are trying to be a people who are eagerly seeking
to discover what the Bible says, to believe and accept
what it says, to submit to what it is teaching and to
put that into practice in our lives and in the life of our
church.
God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
We believe the Bible reveals that one God has
eternally existed as three separate Persons -- God The
Father, God The Son, and God The Holy Spirit -- who
are all three together in one Being often called “The
Triune Godhead” or “The Trinity.”
The Glory of God
We believe the Bible reveals that God aims to glorify
Himself in all that He does, and He calls us to glorify
God in everything we do.
The Character of God
We believe the Bible reveals that God is completely
sovereign over all the universe and all of history, that
He is good and glorious, all-wise, all-knowing, all-
powerful, and ever-present everywhere.
Jesus
We believe the Bible reveals that Jesus is the fullest
expression of God’s glory and character, that He
(Jesus) is the only way to God, and that faith in Him is
the only way for a person to be justified, sanctified,
and to have the hope of delighting in God forever in
Heaven.
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Bible reveals that The Holy Spirit is
present and active in God’s people in a large variety of
ways.
Salvation
We believe the Bible reveals that salvation is
completely a work of God’s grace and is received only
by trusting that Jesus has done (and is doing and will
do) everything that needs to be done to secure the
forgiveness of sin, the power to live a holy life, and the
certainty of eternal happiness in Heaven.
Other Things
There are many other things that are important and
that do get emphasized. The above should give you a
flavor of who we are or at least who we seek to be.
May God richly bless you with the very best, namely
Himself, and a close walk with Him through Jesus, in
the power of The Holy Spirit.
Cornerstone
The Bible calls Jesus “The Cornerstone” (Ephesians
2:19-22, I Peter 2:4-8). A cornerstone is the most
visible and important part of a building’s foundation.
And so, in everything we do as a church, we have
made a conscious attempt both to build on the rock
solid foundation of Jesus Christ and His holy word, the
Bible, and to make Him visible as the most important
Person in our lives.
Community
The word “community” speaks of our desire to be
lovingly involved in the lives of people outside of our
church, both here in Price County and to the ends of
the Earth. This desire is expressed in two main ways.
First, we want to reach out to downtrodden and
hurting people with genuine deeds of love done in
Jesus’ name. Second, we want to embrace the
wonderful message that Jesus Christ died for our sins
and that He is alive and present in power to meet the
deepest needs of the human heart.
Church
The word “church” is a little word packed full of
meaning and activities. The church is the Spirit
formed body of believers gathered in Jesus’ name for
worship and for loving and mutual ministry to one
another.
